8 Ways To Bring Nature Into Your Space

In the interior design world, the colour green induces calmness, relaxation, freshness and elevates one's mood levels making them happy. Being humans, we have a bond with nature which is innate. The great outdoors are breathtaking that we want to bring them inside even if it means to add a bed of pebbles in our gardens or a terrarium to set the mind at ease after a hectic day. Here are a few tips if you wish to carry nature straight into your home.

1. Indoor Plants
There’s no better way to bring the outdoors in than with indoor plants. Get some easy maintenance plants like Split Leaf Philodendrons, Peace Lilies, Snake Plants, Fiddle Leaf Figs, Asparagus Fern, Cacti, Aloe Vera. Plants like rubber trees are easy to grow and maintain and get as tall as eight feet, adding significant style to your space. You don't need lots of shelf or floor space to start an indoor garden. Coffee tables, side tables, and room corners are all great places for putting plants. An important aspect to consider: Make sure your indoor plants have good drainage by providing them with a pot that has a hole in the bottom.

2. Deck the Balcony and Windows
If you have plenty of space on your balcony, you can introduce plants like Areca Palm, English Ivy, Dracaena, Spider Plant, Weeping Fig. The kind of plant you want to grow also depends on the amount of light the space gets. Plants that require low light are Philodendron, Devil’s Ivy, Dracaena and Peace Lily. Also, if you don't have huge terrace or balcony it is totally fine. All you need is a little space right inside your home for these beautiful and useful plants.
When it comes to windows, you can add small herbs and flower pots on your windowsill. Keep the windows open so that the fresh air keeps your room ventilated proficiently. It is also important that your plants receive an adequate amount of natural light. The perfect indoor/outdoor fusion comes to life with floor-to-ceiling windows, sliding glass doors and retractable doors that allow for a seamless fresh air living experience.

3. Grow Your Own Herb Garden
Growing your own fruits and vegetables in your kitchen is a great way to get fresh herbs for easy cooking. Plant low-maintenance herbs like lemongrass, cherry tomatoes, coriander, fennel, onion chives, mint, and parsley in a pot. A sunny windowsill is all you need for a mini herb garden in the kitchen or dining room. Before planting herbs, take into account what herbs you will need to most in cooking your daily meals or new recipes.

4. Hanging Plants
Hanging planters become a statement piece on their own. Think of these floating air purifiers as another chic way to add texture and height to a room. If you want a more permanent option, a wall-mounted planter is also a great use of wasted space and can easily be incorporated into wall art and decor.

5. Terrarium Plants, Cacti and Succulents
Terrarium are just like an aquarium for plants, but without water. The see-through glass container is instead filled with soil, small rocks and plants. These quirky pieces can be kept on centre tables, on a console table, sideboard, on the kitchen counter and so on. Caring for cacti is much easier than other houseplants. You can add the cacti on your home office table, dining table, study table or even on centre tables. Using cacti and succulents enhance the aesthetic value of a space.

6. Introduce Vertical Garden
Imagine a wall filled with lush creepers or money plants. Don't you think the wall will display an excellent art by nature? You can craft your own living wall by hanging up a variety of ceramic pots filled with your favourite plants. Whether you select moss, succulents, or herbs, it’s a fresh take on bringing greenery under your roof, and turning your living room into a refreshing paradise.

7. Use Colour Inspired By Nature
If you're not so keen on getting indoor plants, you can still bring the outdoors in by using outdoor inspired colours like earthly tones for soil, green tones for nature, blue tones for sky and yellow for the sun. Try adding murals, wallpapers, soft furnishings like a bedspread or curtains, fabric prints, throw pillows, bamboo plants, bonsai, cane swing chair and so on to enliven a room with a touch of nature.

Fabric Prints

8. Natural Elements
From dining to flooring, choose materials that have a natural look, like wooden flooring, wooden or marble dining table and chairs. All these materials are reminiscent of nature. And of course, there are brands that use Eco-friendly materials, opt for those.

We hope that these 8 creative ways to bring the outdoors in inspires you to accentuate your home with lots of greenery. Nature is a miracle in itself. There are a lot of psychological and physiological benefits of using plants indoors. All you have to do is take a leap of faith and decide for yourself. After all, nature only has only good things for us.

How To Create A Well-Designed Office Space At Home

With the novel virus pandemic, our world is changing before our eyes and many of us are now confined to working from home to stay safe as a community and country. Those who were already working from home have probably aced the home office environment routine and are doing just fine, while most of us who are new to this are taking baby steps to fit into the home-office zone. With this new regime, we may sometimes feel exhausted, bone tired, groggy, distracted, and feel anxious about the insecurities of being unproductive. To rule out all these, we have solutions on how to design your home office space and be successful.

1.  Choose Your Designated Work Space
Among other things, first and foremost, the biggest decision you will have to make is designating a place to work. If you're planning to sit at a kitchen or breakfast counter or maybe even in the living room, make sure that there is less traffic of people walking around, less human contact, less noise and less distraction, because the last thing you want is to be interfered every 5 minutes. This might require you to change the room or re-arrange a space so that your work environment is conducive to productivity. So choose a place that is less likely to hinder your work and this will make you mentally prepared for work when you enter it.

2. Choosing The Right Furniture For Work
When you sit for work, the chair and the table you choose will play a predominant role in your work environment. Don't just go for looks, but choose wisely based on your comfort level. Anything you opt, make sure it is ergonomic, functional, comfortable, supports your lumbar region, not too slouchy, but cosy enough to keep you relaxed. The tables usually have a certain height, but when it comes to the chair, pick something that allows you to adjust the height. This means your legs shouldn't be hanging when you're sitting on a chair, but instead should be resting on the floor. The table height shouldn't disturb your elbow posture or resting your arms on the desk. Hence, choosing the right furniture will determine the work efficiency.

Ask yourself: Are you comfortable?

3. Prioritise Good Lighting
Lighting can also be determined much earlier when you choose to plan the place to work. If you've chosen a space next to the window, then natural light will illuminate your space and the cool breeze will induce productivity. Unless you have a 6 pack man or a pretty lady staring right at you from your neighbouring window, your productivity is likely to have gone for a toss. Jokes apart! If you don't have the luxury of finding a place right next to the window, make sure to illuminate your space with a light fixture or a bulb. Lighting has a major impact on productivity, especially for those whose work requires staring at a laptop or computer. You can also opt for LED lighting, because it creates clean, comfortable light without glare and is energy-efficient. Therefore, lighting is the key because it determines several aspects like mood, energy, focus and productivity.

4. Add Personality To Your Space
It’s no secret that productivity is increased when your mind is happy. So make space for terrarium, vases, books, candles and pieces of art to elevate your mood levels. Add things that cater to your taste or makes you feel inspired. Since we can't step outdoors, bring the outdoors in with desk plants or floor plants. Research has shown that exposure to nature and greenery increases a person's mood, happiness and productivity while reducing stress. Bringing in the greens is a great way to add a breath of fresh air to your workspace and create some visual variety when your eyes need a break from the screen. Apart from a nice table lamp, pen stand, calendar and clock, add posters, sticky notes, photo frames, craft and such things that define your personality.

5. De-Clutter
Keep only the necessary things on your table, the rest can be transported to your bookshelf or chest of drawers where you can skim through them effortlessly. Those files, extra books, piles of paper lying around your desk are probably not important for the day, shift them to a place where you can access them easily. Starting your work day with a cluttered table can psychologically increase stress, sap energy, and lower productivity. It may make you feel like there's so much to do, but so less time. So keep your table and work space tidy, minimal, and clutter-free.

Some Handy Work From Home Tips:

2. Learn to write e-mails well.
3. Keep moving.
4. Have a routine/schedule/to do list.
5. Drink water and keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
6. Get fresh air once in a while.
7. Get glasses that block out blue light from your screens.
8. Take meaningful breaks.
9. Be positive.
10. Start a new hobby or embrace something you like doing.

An Essential Guide To Buying Outdoor Furniture

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Yes, Summer is here again and we all love to spend some time outdoors than indoors. In India, summer lasts from March to May and it can really get hotter in coastal regions. Some plan to go on a vacation and some like to get cosy in their own spaces and spend some good amount of time with snacks and drink in the backyard, pool or balcony. While we spend so much time lingering outdoor, we do need to invest in good quality furniture that allows us and our family to spend time comfortably and leisurely. Here the ultimate guide for buying outdoor furniture:

Few things to consider before making any decision.

What's the location of your outdoor space? In the backyard? patio? balcony? The location can determine a lot of decisions, what to buy and what not to.

How much space do you have? Do you have enough room for a dining and lounging space, or do you need to choose a single armchair or two? If you have a small patio, maybe a single armchair or single seater sofa should suffice. On the contrary, if you have larger outdoor space then you have plenty of options  to introduce in the given space like- weather - proof chairs, loungers, dining table and sofa or even a daybed.

What's the kind of style you want to exhibit? If you're home interior style has a coastal theme, maybe you would like to take it outdoors as well. All the decisions have to be made on what kind of setting you have at home. If it's classic, you are more likely to go with wood, if it's modern you'll be more than happy to go with dining table and sofas or dining table and chairs.

What kind of material are you looking for? Are you looking for fabric, aluminium, cast aluminium, wrought iron, steel, wicker, rattan, recycled plastic, natural wood or teak? Are you looking for durable furniture? Are you looking for weather resistant furniture? Perhaps, even weightless if you want to shift it around if you have larger space.

How much maintenance can you handle? Think about how much your furniture will be exposed to the elements or how often you expect to change it. That will help you determine what material will work best for you.

How do you want to use your outdoor space? Do you have barbecue nights? Do you like to dine outdoors? Do you like to sit all alone and read a book? Do you have a  lot of friends coming over? Poolside party? Knowing this will help you decide between the long dining table and chairs, a plushy upholstered outdoor sofa or a chaise lounge. Because all this will change the decisions you make to buy the furniture you need.

Aren't quality and budget related? All of us want to buy furniture that lasts longer and sometimes one will have to invest more in order  to get a desired quality furniture.
