Milan Design Week 2026: What to Expect

Every April, Milan does something no other city quite manages to pull off. For one week, the global design community makes it the centre of what's new, next and worth knowing in design, and the result is something that has to be experienced to be believed.

This year, the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile runs from 21st to 26th April at Fiera Milano Rho, with over 1,000 exhibitors from 32 countries filling a completely sold-out 169,000 square metres of exhibition space.

Simply Sofas will be there, bringing you all the highlights as they happen. Before that, here is a closer look at what this year is likely to reveal.

Salone del Mobile

This year, the focus is expected to be firmly on fluid living. Spaces are no longer defined by rigid functions. Living rooms blend into work zones, dining areas become social hubs, and outdoor spaces feel like natural extensions of the home. Expect furniture to follow this shift, with adaptable forms, softer silhouettes, and materials that balance comfort with refinement.

EuroCucina and FTK

The Biennial exhibition returns with 106 brands from 17 countries, putting the spotlight firmly on the kitchen, alongside its technology-focused counterpart, FTK. This year, the kitchen designs are set to feel even more intelligent and connected. Integrated appliances, artificial intelligence, intuitive layouts, and technological enhancements are expected to define the conversation.

Salone Raritas

Arguably the most talked-about addition to this year's programme is Salone Raritas, a brand new exhibition making its debut at this edition. The concept is genuinely different from anything the fair has hosted before: a curated platform bringing together collectable design, limited editions, one-of-a-kind pieces, design antiques, and exceptional handcrafted work.

What makes Raritas particularly compelling is the team behind it. Annalisa Rosso, one of the more authoritative voices in Italian design and Editorial Director of the Salone, is handling the curation. The exhibition design has been created by Formafantasma, the acclaimed Milan and Rotterdam-based studio. The event will be of particular interest to architects, interior designers, developers, and collectors, though anyone drawn to exceptional objects will find something to linger over here.

For over two decades, SaloneSatellite has championed emerging designers, and 2026 looks set to continue that tradition. This year, 700 designers under 35, representing 32 countries and 23 international schools and universities, will present original prototypes under the theme of "New Craftsmanship: A New World." Many of the projects are expected to explore what happens when traditional making, such as woodworking, ceramics, and textile craft, meets new digital tools like AI-generated forms and 3D printing.

This is the exhibition dedicated to everything that gives a home its personality: rugs, ceramics, vases, fabrics, wallpaper, and decorative objects. The sort of things that are easy to overlook on a floor plan, but are ultimately what make a space feel like somewhere you actually want to be. Expect layered textures, sculptural forms, and pieces that feel almost narrative in nature.

S.Project

S.Project takes a broader view than most, presenting complete interior environments rather than individual pieces. It is a relatively young exhibition, but it has already established itself as essential viewing for anyone thinking about spaces holistically. The emphasis here is on harmony: tactile materials, calming palettes, and interiors designed to feel immersive and genuinely welcoming.

Workplace3.0

Over 120 companies are expected to present furniture and spatial solutions built around the reality that work today is flexible, mobile, and largely resistant to the idea of a fixed desk. Workplace3.0 is likely to explore environments that are more collaborative and human-centric, responding to the continued blurring of home and work life. Expect modular systems, adaptable layouts, and furniture designed to support both focused work and easy interaction.

And Beyond the Fair Itself

Milan Design Week is never just what happens inside the fairgrounds. The Fuorisalone, the city-wide programme of installations, brand activations, and cultural events running in parallel, transforms Milan's neighbourhoods, courtyards, and historic buildings into a second fair of sorts. Over 200 showrooms across the city open their doors, making the whole of Milan feel like one enormous design exhibition.

Our Brands Will Be in Milan
