Fascinating Glimpses from Fuorisalone 2022

Fuorisalone, which coincides with the Salone Internazionale del Mobile at Rho Fiera, is a set of events and exhibitions spread across the city’s design districts. This year, we visited two of its most significant ones - Brera and Tortona.

Interestingly, although Fuorisalone started in the early 1980s by companies working in the furnishing and industrial design sectors, it does not have a central organisation and is not managed by any Institution. Today, it has expanded into many related sectors including automotive, technology, telecommunications, art, fashion, and food. Drawing a lot of designers, architects, students, and professionals from all over the world.

Here are a few of the many exhibits that caught our imagination at Fuorisalone 2022.

The Art of Dreams by Porsche

The Porsche installation at Brera Design District. A courtyard, nature, summertime and a classic car. Celebrating timeless design.

Another piece by Porsche, The Art of Dreams incorporates a dozen piloted drones into a new-to-the-world viewing experience.

The gender equal toilet by Abaco at Brera Design District.

Eponimo juxtaposes pieces of furniture and rich decorative accessories against the natural settings of apartments which preserve the late baroque boiserie and ceilings.

Large ice creams and fantasy shapes, from the Melt Viola collection, made on a wooden support, are an explosion of colour that drips. The dripping represents the passage of time. The technique used is acrylic and marker on MDF with acrylic resin.

Design Variations is an exhibition that triggers a profound exchange between the exhibitions, the identity of the place that hosts them, creativity, and project innovations.

Ak47 designs contemporary products for outdoor fireplaces. Here the designers’ sensibility merges with the ability and knowledge of the best masters of arts, shaping objects unique for their simplicity, utility, style and functionality.

"Someone is Lying" is a project by Alcantara that displays Pinocchio in a gigantic size to highlight the growing problem of greenwashing, a practice primarily used by businesses that position themselves as being focused on environmental sustainability but without basing their actions on truthful, scientifically proven, and understandable data.

Meaning, idea, tech, and a touch of warmth. The wireframe of the RZ, suspended just above the ground, embodies Lexus’ vision of a more sustainable future coming into focus, embracing the ideas of electrification, technology, and bespoke design.

A special mention must be made of the Floating Forest by Stefano Boeri Interiors x Timberland. Part of the Tortona Design Week, this installation is a multisensory miniature ecosystem resting on river Darsena inspiring the idea of how cities can be transformed into greener and healthier places.

We also loved the interactive Touch&Feel installation by Haier. With the aid of a specially-designed app, visitors could participate in several home scenarios and virtually experience the fascinating world of the smart home.

Stay tuned as we bring you more from Milan Design Week 2022.
